Having an Operating Safety Case enables iRed to expand its operations

This new OSC allows iRed remote pilots to operate beyond the limitations of the standard Permission for Commercial Operation (PfCO).

Area Standard PfCO iRed OSC
Congested Area TOAL* 30 metres 10 metres
Congested Area Operation 50 metres 15 metres
Assemblies of more than 1000 persons 150 metres 75 metres
EVLOS 500 metres 1500 metres
Extended Altitude 400 feet 800 feet

*Take-Off and Landing

Gaining the Operating Safety Case enables iRed to work in areas that were previously inaccessible. They will also be able to alter their methods, allowing for more efficient aerial survey tasks. Additionally, the OSC includes the use of a fleet of different aircraft, each with its own benefit to the operating environment.

This extensive OSC is especially useful because iRed specialise in the thermal inspection of buildings and multispectral inspection of land. These are areas where there is increasing demand for EVLOS (Extended Visual Line of Sight), which iRed remote pilots can now achieve.

As well as this, iRed will be able to operate above 400 feet, which enables them to inspect taller buildings and structures, such as wind turbines.

iRed are a CAA approved National Qualified Entity (NQE) to train commercial drone operators, and their real-world experiences are used to the benefit of their students.

Operating Safety Case for Drone Operators Course

Being able to discuss the practicalities of writing and using an OSC with experienced instructors is a great advantage to drone pilots looking to obtain their own. As a result, the iRed Academy have developed a specific industry-leading course that delivers the tools and knowledge needed to write an Operating Safety Case for application to the CAA.

This course provides students with the opportunity to experience what is involved in the process of obtaining an OSC – and find out how this can affect their own operations.
