The Thermal Imaging Category 1 Online Course introduces the fundamentals of thermal imaging. During the course, delegates will gain an understanding of thermal image capture, analysis and reporting.
Thermal imaging can be used for surveys of buildings, solar farms, and electrical installations. These surveys are able to provide crucial insights, as well as identify faults.
Many factors, such as camera settings, can affect a thermal image. As such, training is essential for new thermographers who want to avoid common mistakes and produce credible reports.
Our experienced instructors deliver this course via Google Meets across four days. Therefore, the course combines aspects of classroom and online learning, providing comprehensive learning material alongside interactive tutorial.
Please Note: Delegates will need to ensure they have access to a webcam, microphone, speakers and a strong internet connection. It is also essential to complete the course in a quiet, undisturbed environment.
Course Content
Through a comprehensive online syllabus, delegates will learn how to use a thermal camera to inspect surface temperatures and track heat transfer. As a result, this enables the discovery of faults associated with heat loss or gain.
Firstly, the course provides an understanding of the basics of thermal imaging. As well as this, delegates will study emissivity, RAT, and IFoV.
Furthermore, the course covers the basics of thermal camera use, including correct camera set-up and calibration. Additionally, delegates will learn how to process thermal images, along with condition monitoring and basic fault detection.
Delegates will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles of camera operation, as well as how to accurately capture thermal images.
At the end of the course, delegates will complete a multiple-choice exam. Additionally, they must submit five thermal imaging reports to the iRed Academy for assessment. Delegates are able to submit their reports until up to a year after the end of the course.
Successful completion of the Thermal Imaging Category 1 Online Course qualifies delegates as an iRed® Certified thermographer.
Additional BINDT Accreditation (ISO 18436)
This course is eligible for accreditation from the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT), to the BS EN ISO 18436 standard. This has an additional cost of £360 (incl VAT).
To gain this accreditation, delegates will need to sit a BINDT assessed thermal imaging exam at an assessment centre. This is included within the accreditation fee.
Included in the accreditation process is a ‘logbook of experience’, which delegates must submit to BINDT for approval. The logbook will contain proof of a delegate’s ‘thermal imaging experience’. ‘Thermal imaging experience’ includes time surveying, creating reports, or self-study. Delegates must show evidence of 16 hours a month of thermal imaging experience (totalling 192 hours for the year).
Accreditation offers independent assurance that you’re both qualified and competent in operating a thermal imaging camera. This also provides you with an edge on your competitors. However, the nature of the work required to achieve this additional accreditation means that it can take longer to complete, especially if you are new to industry. On successful completion of a course, we provide delegates with an industry recognised iRed® Qualification, which enables delegates to advertise their skills and build the experience needed for their logbook.
