DO I NEED A CALIBRATION?

Without proper calibration, thermal imaging cameras can often give inaccurate temperature measurements. Like most measurement equipment, manufacturers (such as FLIR®) recommend that infrared cameras are serviced annually with a calibration check.

What is a calibration check?

A calibration check is a method for assessing a thermal camera’s performance against the original manufacturers specification.

The check is conducted in a controlled testing environment, using state-of-the-art calibration equipment capable of testing temperature ranges from -15ºC to 500ºC.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Manufacturers recommend that your calibration is checked annually by a trusted provider, with traceable certificate to national standards. Without proper  calibration, accurate measurements cannot be assured. This means that any thermal imaging surveys undertaken with an uncalibrated camera can be disputed by your client or customer.

Our firmware update service may exclude certain cameras. If you opt for a firmware update and we’re unable to update your camera, or if your camera is already up-to-date, we’ll simply refund your update fee. Please note that we do expect any data on the camera to be backed-up or saved prior to calibration, and as such iRed® accept no responsibility for any data loss and/or firmware issues arising from the manufacturers design.

Calibration checks are performed by measuring targets with known temperatures and comparing the known and measured temperatures. For this reason, we use specialist infrared temperature calibrators, also known as black body simulators. Whilst these are commercially available, the associated cost of the equipment and setting up a controlled testing environment would end up costing far more than the camera itself.

Our typical calibration turnaround time is between 3-5 days. Our fast-track service includes next-day delivery and same-day collection (before midday). Fast-track customers also receive our priority service, meaning all of your equipment is guaranteed to be calibrated within 24 hours of receipt.

iRed® accepts no responsibility for delays outside of our control (for example courier delays).
